Charles is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level - the highest level of certification currently available. He is co-founder and instructor with the Living Yoga Teacher Training Program, and co-founder of the Texas Yoga Retreat.

Charles MacInerney yoga and meditation teacher, instructor and retreat facilitatorCharles MacInerney was born in Naples, Italy in 1961, and lived in the Philippines, Germany, and England before moving to Texas in 1977. He began studying Hatha Yoga in 1971 with Arlene Council. At the time, Arlene was teaching yoga at the Ratcliff Teaching Hospital in Oxford, England, working with Doctors and Surgeons and then going bed to bed, working with patients.

From this first exposure to yoga, Charles learned to be creative in adjusting yoga to meet the students' needs and abilities.

Since 1971, Charles has continued to study a variety of mind/body disciplines working with over 17 teachers including Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk.

In 1989 Charles founded Expanding Paradigms and has introduced over 12,000 students to Yoga, Meditation and other mind/body disciplines. He also publishes a biannual newsletter called "Expanding Paradigms" which has over 5,000 subscribers around the world.

Charles is well known in Austin for his Yoga classes and workshops, and for his work in promoting Yoga in a variety of specialized settings, including corporate and government agencies. He also has received a lot of attention for his work in using Yoga to teach anger management to At-Risk-Youth and using yoga and meditation to work with Seton Hospital's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and the Austin Heart Hospital's Hearts & Minds rehabilitation clinic.

Over the last 10 years, Charles has earned the respect of the wellness community. He is a regular presenter at the National Wellness Conference, and has twice been the keynote speaker at the Seton Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Conference. He increasingly receives referrals from doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists, counselors, massage therapists, and bio-feedback clinics.

He is also known nationally for his efforts to help government, businesses, and organizations to integrate yoga, meditation, and spirituality into the work place, and presented on this subject at the 3rd Annual S.W. Yoga Conference.

Charles has extensive experience with all forms of media, including newspapers, magazines, tv and radio.
