CITIES

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Hatha
Yoga classes & workshops in Austin, Texas are offered as ongoing programs
and students can join at any time. In addition, Charles MacInerney regularly
leads workshops in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and around the state,
as well as retreats in Mexico, Costa Rica and central Texas.
Learn Yoga with one of Austin's most experienced and respected
teachers. Charles teaches yoga asanas in a nurturing and meditative style.
His primary goal is to help students improve their breathing and to increase
their self-awareness, confidence, and independence. Charles blends the
precision of Iyengar yoga with a the well balance structure of the Hymalayan
Yoga tradition, and a playful, joyful approach to practicing yoga.
Hatha I Classes: These classes attract
a mixture of new yoga students, more experienced students, and even teachers,
working along side of each other. Classes are taught in such a way that
each student feels challenged, with out feeling intimidated. Students
are encouraged to listen to their own mind/body dialogue, then learn to
move away from pain and into pleasure, until they discover for themselves,
the joy of yoga. Thus students work at varying levels of intensity, and
explore different variations of the same asanas.
Once students have learned to enjoy the practice of Hatha
yoga, the emphasis is shifted to perfecting each pose, developing strength,
flexibility, balance, precision, stamina,
coordination, and grace.
Each class is carefully structured to give a well balanced
workout for the muscles, joints, organs, glands and nervous system. The
beginning and the end of classes are usually very similar and are taught
in a more meditative atmosphere. The middle of classes differ from week
to week, allowing for students to learn new poses, or explore familiar
poses in more depth. Classes close with a deep guided relaxation. At the
completion of class, students usually feel calm, centered, quietly energized
and happy.
Hatha II Classes: These classes are for
students who have studied with Charles for at least 6 months, or more
experienced students who have worked with different teachers. The main
requirement for joining this class is good body awareness, and willingness
to take personal responsibility for not injuring your self. This allows
Charles to teach in a more challenging style, and to experiment. Some
classes are taught in silence, some are taught with music. Sometimes Charles
teaches in a more Iyengar style, focusing on alignment and precision.
Sometimes the focus is self exploration, or breathing, or meditative yoga.
Students in this class are not necessarily free of injuries
or in great shape, but they do know how to look after themselves, and
often choose to do alternative poses when Charles teaches a pose that
is not safe for them to work on.
Charles MacInerney has extensive experience as a Hatha
Yoga Instructor having practiced since 1971, and taught since 1989. For
